No more fare disputes — you know the price before you get in
One of the biggest frustrations with taking a taxi in Guyana is not knowing what you'll pay until you arrive — and then having to negotiate, or worse, argue. RideGY changes that. Every fare is calculated and shown on your screen before you confirm the ride. You see the price, you decide whether to book, and the driver gets the same number. No surprises at the end of the trip.
Fares are priced in Guyana dollars and are based on distance, vehicle type, and time of day. Demand can also affect the price — the app will always show you the current fare upfront so you can decide. You are never committed until you tap to confirm.
Paying with cash
Cash is the default for most riders, and it works exactly as you'd expect. When your trip ends, you pay your driver the fare shown in the app — nothing more, nothing less. There is no haggling and no ambiguity because both you and the driver see the same confirmed fare.
Keep some small bills handy. While drivers do their best to have change, having the right amount makes the handover quicker and easier for everyone. Cash works everywhere RideGY operates, which is across all of Guyana — just remember supply is densest where more drivers are active.
Paying by credit or debit card
If you prefer not to carry cash, you can pay by credit or debit card directly through the app. Add your card details once in the RideGY app and the fare is handled automatically at the end of your ride — no cash changes hands at all.
This is especially convenient for airport transfers or late-night trips when you'd rather not pull out your wallet. Card payment also keeps a clean digital record of every trip and fare you've paid, which some riders find useful for expense tracking.
Paying with MMG mobile money
RideGY also accepts MMG mobile money, making it one of the most locally grounded payment options on the platform. If you already use MMG for everyday purchases and transfers, you can link it to your RideGY account and pay for rides the same way.
Mobile money is growing quickly in Guyana, and having it as an option means you can take a RideGY trip without a physical card or cash on hand — just your phone. It is a natural fit for a country where mobile payments are becoming part of daily life.
Example fares — so you know roughly what to expect
Fares vary with route, time, and demand, but here are some illustrative figures for a Standard car to give you a rough idea. A short in-town hop might run around GY$1,000 to GY$1,500. A trip of about 5 km might come to around GY$2,500. A longer run of about 8 km might be around GY$3,500. Airport transfers may use a flat rate. These are examples only — always check the fare shown in the app before you confirm.
RideGY also offers different vehicle types. A Bike is the most affordable option for solo riders who want to move fast through traffic. Standard cars are the everyday choice. SUVs and Premium options are available when you want extra space or a more comfortable ride.
- Bike — cheapest option, one passenger
- Standard — everyday rides for most trips
- SUV — more room for bags or groups
- Premium — a more comfortable experience
Tipping your driver
Tips are optional and entirely up to you — but if your driver went out of their way, arrived quickly, or made the ride especially pleasant, you can tip through the app after your trip. Every dollar of the tip goes directly to the driver. RideGY does not take a cut of tips.
Tipping is a small gesture that makes a real difference to drivers who are out on the road every day. It is also a good way to reward a high-rated driver who consistently delivers a great experience.
Which payment method should you choose?
The honest answer is: whichever feels most natural to you. Cash is familiar and needs no setup. Card is hands-free and keeps a clean record. MMG is ideal if mobile money is already part of how you manage your money day to day.
If you are using RideGY for the first time, cash is the easiest starting point — there is nothing extra to set up and you are already used to it. As you get comfortable with the app, adding a card or linking MMG takes only a few minutes and makes future trips even smoother.
Whatever you choose, the price is locked in before you request the ride. That alone sets RideGY apart from hailing a car on the street — you know what you're paying, and so does your driver.
